Abstract

The Southwestern University is represented by the Southwestern Pirates football team. The objective of the abstract was to analyze the impact of the programme on the teammates of the football team as well as upon the academic scenario of the university. Since the world war days, the university had been operational on various fronts. Football teams were composed of competent players who showcased their professional skills in the field. Gradually, the standard of the team fell due to inconsistent approach and proper mentorship of the management. In 2013, the programme was reinstated, getting encouraged by influential investors from far across the country. Everyone realised the importance of inculcating football sessions in the university academia. The focus was shifted upon the team building with pertinent effort and the team continued their journey. During the pandemic, the team struggled to overcome many challenges to reach success. After the crisis, a lot of strategies were adopted to overhaul the pattern. Those plates that had left before are welcome to the team which put the endeavour to revive the lost glory. The football programme had set up a link between economic flourish and academic prosperity. A transformational change had been brought up by the phenomenal football programme.

Discussion

History of the football program

Southwestern University Football programme has gained immense popularity under the speculative mentorship of the coach, BO Pitterno. Since its emergence at the Stephenville, Texas College, the stadium has been accommodating 54000 seats yet the president along with the management team has their plan for the new stadium. Even the consecutive triumph could not resolve the tension in the president Wisner’s mind as he complains of inadequate seating arrangements, parking problem, traffic congestion nearby. However, the audience extended overwhelming support to encourage the university to resume its football program in 2013 against the University of Texas Lutheran.

The programme has flourished as part of NCAA Division iii. During the entire period of 1908-1950, the intercollegiate competition was being held but due to economic issues, it was disbanded. In 2011 the university board discussed the reinstatement of the program and voting was done. Significant impact was evaluated within the team through serious drills (Stubbs & Hicks, 2018). Before the 1940s, the Southwestern was referred to as a “small-time” program. Gradually, the event started drawing global attention and national media sponsorship. During the second world war, the football team became an unbeatable team to compete with.

Skilled Players

Some of the remarkable players of expertise of the team are Solon Barnett, William Collins, Pite Cawthon and the like. In 2012, the management hired the competent coach Joe Austen who created the pool of stars. Austen came during the period when the team was suffering tremendous losses due to four consecutive defeats. The coach performed his responsibility with competence and reinvested his effort into team building and management. After a lot of endeavours, Austen revived the team spirit by finishing the second-best in the league. Many young people were encouraged to continue their match with zeal and gusto. Earlier, it is an advantage for the team that a large segment was composed of the navy people. They were strong, determined and passionate to carry forward the team legacy. The young men fielded exponentially yet the team left midway for military training.

Southwestern University has developed the team under the name southwestern pirate team. Now, the team has known faces aplenty headlined by Bernar Sencherey and Patrick Nicolas who encountered 63 tackles. Now, slack is too welcome in the team to manage the defensive backfield. The offensive line is prettily equipped to set on important challenges to carry on with. A player like Eric Ovalle has suffered a lot of injury in his career; he turns out to be a player of all-confidence and calibre (Krill et al., 2019). After the pandemic, the Pirates also welcome Ethan Powell and Gaza start as the freshers. Currently, umpteen skill-position players are expected to revive the lost glory of the team.

Mechanisms of victory

The Pirate suffered consecutive losses due to the flaw in the practice session, training, practice and the limitations got exposed onto the field when Southwestern finished its first season at 0-5. The flaw was identified in not having enough meetings conducted and lifting weights. Then they decided to practice and were divided into a small team of 10. Although the decision was harder for football, it provided a competitive edge to the team equipping it with safety gear. The view is to encounter and win all trials and tribulations with confidence and resilient mechanisms. The objective was to bring back normalcy in a turbulent year of pandemics. The challenge is to get back into the formal glory by incessant practices, determined enterprises. More and more sessions and meetings started taking place to develop the position than before.

Watching various films and documentaries they got themselves reface-on the opponents. The team accommodated the flexible strategies to welcome those who had been left off. After the pandemic, the journey commenced with the defensive starters and excellence at the offensive positions (Su & Zeng, 2020). All kinds of inconsistencies are removed through streaks of brilliance. The team has adopted tactics to harness improvement through the readymade team. The team tries to sort out the strengths and weaknesses of the individual players to predict and evaluate the future growth acceleration. The schemes are steering into fixing the skills by strengthening the designs. The strategy to win the game is established in such a way that it must need an efficient quarterback to render the best performance.

Importance

The management has realized the significance of football in enhancing alumni support and their involvement with the institution. The boosted-up visibility and popularity has widened across the media and brought in sponsorships. Many clubs have agreed to healthy donations to make the practice stronger (Kerr et al., 2018). The campaign of thinking ahead was conducted by the southwestern pledges to collect $150 million. Previously, $1 million had been provided by McComb to support the economic foundation of the university. The addition of football must generate the revenue that could be utilised for other activities of the university. The end of spring ball performance is superb than the team was in the pandemic year.

All players are passionately ready to play the full season and the team has achieved pretty good offensive linemen and incoming group pushing the old players. The sense of normalcy is delivered in the passionate and competent performance of the performers (Borgerding et al., 2018). Recently, a survey has demonstrated that in comparison with other universities the graduation rates and student population are 7% higher in this university. The persistent effort not just entails the involvement in football, it is inclusive of the transformation in academia as well as in the institution.

Conclusion

Football Programmes by Southwestern University has assumed a contributory dimension to the popularity enhancement. The programme also acts to foster friendly bonds among the teammates as well as to inculcate in them the sportsmanship spirit. The programmes have been influential to unite all the stakeholders of the university.
