Such are moral issues of the individual that are integrated into the society’s tradition and loaded with social values. At this point in time, the problem occurs as the views might be acceptable to society. Hence, social work will project values and might be disputed as the society might not agree with the social work aim.
The personal can be stated as a composite of powerful beliefs and ideas present in an individual and considered vital and valuable for life. Values are at times undertaken as problematic that might undergo change over the period of time. Personal value can be seen in honesty, equality, respect and justice. Such values establish within a person once they begin to know the difference between the good and the bad (Jonck, van der Walt, & Sobayeni 2017). When it comes to right or wrong, it can be treated as a subjective matter, and hence the personal values of people are different. The personal value encloses values about the cultural, moral, and political and religion. Personal value and their meaning stand different for every individual hence varied from one individual to another.
Moreover, personal values can be different within the same profession. A social worker’s value might influence how he carries himself and the decision undertaken within the scope of the professional practice (Penketh 2014). Thereby, it is imperative that social workers should be concerned with the values and the roots. The aspect behind the selection of the career path for many individuals rests mainly on the concept of the values and in some proportion the personal values is linked to the values of the social work. On the contrary, there might be situation in the career of the social worker where conflict might be observed between the personal and the professional value. Professional ethics has a normative focus that is how people in the professional roles behave and act.
Personal followed by the professional values and ethics of the social worker helps in completing the work with effectiveness. There are different kind of beliefs that are being established by people as per the worthiness. In lieu to it, it can be ascertained that personal value might be different from one worker to another. In totality, it depends on the manner in which people checks the outer world. Personal value holds a direct link with the ethical standards and the code of conduct that is being followed. On the other hand, it can be termed as a belief that comes from the moral, religious and cultural aspects when it comes to values (Jonck, van der Walt, & Sobayeni 2017). If the social workers are comprises of a higher level of perception with something, then the person’s value will be high too.
Professional values can be defined as the principles defined to teach the individuals how to showcase within the practice of a professional. Professional values prescribe how each practitioner should behave with the clients. Even though the HCPC code of conduct provides clear guidelines on how the social worker should perform, the professional values are different from those defined by the statutes and legislations. Professional values are the ones that are seen in a profession and can be written either in formal or informal tone. Even social work organization might contain their own values. Some of the eminent examples of professional social work are commitment to attain the social change to adhere to the social recognized needs, providing utility to the individuals who are vulnerable and providing respect to the difference present among the group.
Social workers advocate on their behalf that they have no say in society. They target problems such as poverty, discrimination, harassment and other types of oppression. Further, they educate people on matters that are sensitive that correspond to social justice through encouraging the public for embracing the opportunities needed for diversity and inclusion (Penketh 2014). Social workers play a major role when it comes to the welfare system that is designed to care for, tame or empower people. Hence, this leads to imperatives of contradictory nature and challenges of ethical nature. The main values and principles traced earlier might be into conflict and social workers required to undertake an impossible stand concerning the acts.
It is vital to understand that the social work as an occupation comprises of ethical issue that are embedded into every day. If the ethical challenge is considered, then a distinction can be taken with the ethical issues, complexity, and dilemmas (Brieger, De & Timo 2021). On the other hand, ethical issues happens when the social worker undertakes an instance involving a complex ethical decision but is clear regarding the happening. For instance, a person might reject the appeal of the needy person for various services pertaining to home as the person does not understand the aspect.
As per Gray and Coates, there is a strong link between the ethics and the professional code of conduct being established by various bodies such as the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Association of Social workers. For instance, HCPC has established a single code of conduct that prescribes that the social workers must establish the desired communication level. In simple instances, to provide better services, the health care workers need to have a link with the service users and state to them about the action they want to perform (Brieger, De & Timo 2021). For instance, social workers can provide mental, physical and personal safety. Moreover, the ethical theories even prescribe that communication is being termed as the major need for the linked parties. Looking for help from better communication with the service users, the health professional that includes social workers can lead to effectiveness and strong planning that can provide a scheme for better services.
From the above discussion and understanding of the statement, it can be commented that the main aspect of social work is ethics. It helps specify the different manners through which the workers can discharge their responsibilities and duties and even provide the best care services. Ethics ensure that the health care workers and other people linked to the case perform the duties with transparency and without any fault. Moreover, it has been witnessed that social workers undergoes complex decision making where there appears no correct or incorrect answer. The discussion supports the fact that social work values like self-discrimination and sustenance of the confidentiality can lead to uncertain process, thereby creating confusion between the values and the process hence leading to the situation where correct response is unable to be traced. A concern of the client is often complex and laced with different aspects hence can be commented that greater the knowledge and ability of the practitioner, the more effective would be the social worker in practice. Furthermore, the base of the good social work practice understands the values, as well as principles and the manner of interaction with the people with the skills learnt.
