MGB335-Organizing A Trekking Trip Around The Annapurna Massif

Mar 13,23

Question:

You have been appointed as the Project Manager by Mountain Escape – a travel agency that offers a range of trekking and hiking holidays – to organise a 14-days trekking trip around the Annapurna Massif in the Himalayas. The trip is aimed for the moderate level hikers.

Mountain Escape has requested that you produce a project scoping documents: a Charter and Schedule on how you intend to plan to undertake the project.

The package will include airport transfers, accommodations, meals, insurance, permits, Sherpas etc. Typical cost of similar trekking tours (with moderate difficulty) in Himalaya and Karakorum regions vary between AUD 5000 – AUD 5500. The trip is scheduled for 26 July, but you have to have the scoping documents ready three months before the trip.

1.Your business case and governance strategy are to be determined by you and this should be explicit in the Foreword of your Charter Document. The foreword should be no longer than 200 words. The overall word limit is 1000 words.
2.You are required to put in a reference list at the end of your document appropriate to the size of this document e.g. 1 reference per 200-300 words and the reference list is not counted in the word limit (this is standard for most management journals and management conferences).
3.The Charter should be approximately 3 pages and can include dot points, which should have lead-in sentences.
4.Tables, figures, appendixes and references are excluded from the word count.
5.Elements that may be included in your Charter, but are not limited to:

Project scope statements

This relevant project charter indicates organising a fourteen-day trekking trip to Annapurna massif in the Himalayas. This relevant trip will be conducted on 26 July and the purpose of this plan is to notify the travellers who want to participate in this trip. This project statement aimed to provide all details about the future travel by Mountain Escape. The capital amount of AUD 5000 – AUD 5500 has been taken to conduct the journey from the Himalayas to the Karakorum. Making an appropriate project plan is required before starting any journey or travelling (Snyman & Bricker, 2019). The boundaries during the travel have been detailed in the next section of this charter plan. The opportunity has been also mentioned in the relevant sections.

Key milestones

  • Starting the journey from Himalayan ranges on 26 July 2022.
  • The trip is for moderate hikers and experienced hill climbers.
  • Two days trekking period for reaching Annapurna massif.
  • Four days of camp for all the climbers in the low range of the Himalayan hills.
  • Two days travel on the various ranges of the Himalayas locations.
  • One day journey to the Karakoram hills.
  • All trekking participants can carry their equipment for trekking the hills.
  • The mission of this relevant industry is to start a new journey for the Himalayas without any risks or injuries to any members.

Project Manager

  • The major duty of a project manager is to identify the future risks and the problems that can arise during a journey. The project manager is the main director of the travel programme. It is known that a project manager needs to check all relevant elements or tools before adding any member to the journey so it is important to be more analytical. The boundaries of this relevant Journeay project have been identified by the project manager and also the benefit of this business has been explored in the below sections.

Budget

Total budget is AUD 5500

Budget elements  Time  Expenses in Australia dollar (per member)
Airport transfers One day AUD 79.9160
Accommodations Two month AUD 99.30
Meals 14 days AUD 124.70
Insurance Lifetime AUD 1000
Permits 14 days AUD 600
Trekking equipments 14 days AUD 2530
First aid kit and tools  14 days AUD 898
Oxygen cylinder  14 days AUD 768

Client organisation

The client organisation is Mountain Escape which has specifically conducted various trekking and tours in various nations with experienced travellers. This relevant industry includes the appropriate budget plan for all interested participants or tourists. The next destination of the tourism industry is to start a journey for Annapurna massif in India. After three months, the relevant journey will be conducted with a specific number of travellers who are tourists. In the post-pandemic season the earning rate of tourism industries has been reduced (Heslinga, Groote & Vanclay, 2019). It consists of the travellers carrying their equipment to climb up the hills in the Himalayas. The important thing is that Mountain Escape is highly concerned about the life risks of the future trekking members for the targeted destination.

Problem/Opportunity

  • The project boundaries indicate certain natural disasters during the journey and their precautions. The helping team needs to be presented during the travel with the first aid facilities to provide primary hospitality to any injured member.
  • The conflict-Free journey can bring success to all climbers or trekkers. If all trip-related sections can be fulfilled without any complexities then trekkers can gain the progressive result after reaching the high range of the Himalayas.
  • Emerging the travel business is an impactful factor that needs specific support by the stakeholders (Altinay & Taheri, 2019).

Business benefits

  • Benefits for earning more money from the travellers after successfully conducting the journey.
  • Opportunity to conduct more trekking related journeys in weather destinations with more profitability level.
  • Opportunity for earning the trust of global consumers after successfully completing the travel trip.

Constraints

One of the major limitations has been identified that can hamper the future journey to the Annapurna massif in the Himalayas.

As it is known in tropical countries, July is the season of rain in that nation. After starting the journey all the trip members can face the issue regarding heavy rain and storms.

Assumptions regarding any risks

  • It has been assumed that during the journey any kind of physical or non-physical injuries can happen. Thus, it is important to carry the first aid tools and kits to provide primary care to the injured persons.

Stakeholders

The stakeholders have been listed to identify the net investment for the relevant trip.

Investors: The manor investors are the workers and employees of the relevant tourism industry. Post pandemic period has reduced the net investments by global investors to the tourism organisation (Williams, 2021).

Participants or trip members: The participant should provide proper amounts to the relevant tourism industry while joining the trip. As it has been explored a maximum of AUD 5500 has been taken as the capital mount thus, it requires more investment.

Local guide in the destination: Local guides in the Himalayas ranges are also the external investors as well as stakeholders of Mountain Escape. Without the help of local guides, it can be impossible to find out the correct location for travelling or trekking in the high ranges.

Major Deliverables

The major deliverable factor is earning more monetary investments from the stakeholders. There is the scope for globalising the business of Mountain Escape with more increased reputation. The main thing is to deliver good services to the clients and other members such as servants, guides and the members for primary hospitality.

Success Criteria

Success criteria are the formal norms that need to be maintained by all team members. These norms have been mentioned in the section below.

  • Maintaining ethics and cultures during the entire period of the journey is important.
  • Maintaining a good relationship with the group or team members is required.
  • Any kind of negative attitude is not acceptable during the trip.
  • Helping each other while trekking hills is important that can bring success to all team members.

Scope of work

  • There is the scope to increase the brand reputation through the successful journey to the Himalayas.
  • After a successful journey, the clients can show more interest to join themselves for the next journeys.
  • Scope to emerge the business sizes with more monetary support.
