Introduction to the Topic
The information has emerged to be a considerably important sector. Various concepts have been incorporated in other fields to enhance service provision to clients through the advancement and the resulting products. Healthcare is among the leading sectors in which the concept of wearable technologies has been incorporated and used in equipment like watches and Google glasses. Wearable technologies are gaining prominence in healthcare, having deemed to contribute to the effectiveness and the efficiency of understanding and attending to the health issues affecting various patients; consequently, the overall quality of healthcare services is facilitated. While the technology application is associated with positive impacts in the healthcare setting, controversies have arisen following possible ethical issues [1]. The ethical issues have sparked the need to research the topic to uncover different aspects as far as the healthcare sector continues to embrace and apply them. This has prompted the development of this paper presented around the type of patient data captured by wearable devices and the tools and techniques which can inform working with the data to improve patient safety. The report covers incorporating the feedback from the previous section, identified issues, and arguments and recommendations.
Feedback from part 1a and Subsequent Research
I read and incorporated the feedback from the last part of the assignment. For one, I included the title of the paper in the first column. This is important for my assignment’s identity so that the examiner knows what my paper is about, therefore making it easy for marking. Moreover, I added references to confirm that I did research and indicate the aspect of academic integrity; that is, citing consulted sources to embrace the concept of attribution. Besides, for the other column, I used the list format to present ideas in a precise manner. This will be important to ensure that the marker will identify the points communicating the identified ideas. To improve the assignment further, as directed by the previous feedback, I improved the covered concepts’ explanation. Further improvement of the assignment included the adjustment of the English to the Australian version and the use of the strict IEEE style of reference presentation.
Analysis of the Identified Issues
A potential ethical issue regarding wearable technologies is the possible misuse of patient data in a hospital setting. While they are used for patient and disease management misused data like prevention and understanding healthcare problems, sufficient data is revealed in the process. The employees may use private data for other purposes other than the intended use [4]. These may include the potential exploitation of users’ privacy, and the details may be wrongly made available to third parties beyond the use of healthcare professionals. This confirms the existence of a severe ethical with the use of wearable technology devices in the hospital.
Consequently, a bad influence can result, especially if the company lacks a strategy around the transparent on personal data [3]. Moreover, mostly, wearable devices’ application is based on the priority of the multifunction features rather than data safety. There is a potential loss of data since the three CIA triad concepts are not taken care of.
Key Arguments and Recommendations that Emerged from the Analysis
The article’s analysis reveals that the situation around the use of wearable technology devices in health is still controversial now that severe ethical problems may arise. This prompts the need to suggest approaches through which the technology can be used within ethical bounds to protect patient data [4]. For one, hospitals should create awareness for the employees, emphasizing the need to use the data for the intended purpose, specifically [2]. Moreover, there should be information security systems with the surveillance role regarding logs of the technology devices’ use.
Conclusion
Wearable technology devices are essential in healthcare settings regarding increasing the efficiency and quality of service provision. However, ethical issues make the application of the advancement concerning the operations around the personal data of patience. The ethical issues include the irresponsible use of the data and the expanded scope of use rather than the safety of data use. The ethical issues can be solved using auditing and training employees to gain competence around the prescribed ethical use of the technology.
