Introduction

Drawing a proposal summary with selecting and justifying the choice of a local SME (Small to Medium-sized Enterprise) or job you currently are working at, or a large / global corporation you have researched and are interested in finding more about, you (acting as an IS Consultant) will attempt the following tasks which will research, analyse, evaluate and reflect on the process.

Task 1

Select two different functional areas of the business – Finance, IT, Marketing, Logistics etc. – and carry out research to answer the following:

  1. a) Explain and justify the information needs of the two selected functional areas. Ensure you include issues such as the inputs required, outputs generated, and processing activities undertaken for each functional area.
  2. b) Compare and contrast the information systems that the two structural and functional areas could make use of to manage the information that they use.

Task 2

  1. a) Identify and explain how information systems are used in one of the functional areas you selected in Task 1 to produce management information at middle and senior management levels of the business.
  2. b) List and comment on the key technical details of the information system and the business considerations to middle and senior managements of the business.

Task 3

Identify and explain the social and ethical issues are linked to the information system of the business. Does the organisation have a mission, vision and value statement? If so, what is their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy?
