Answer:
Introduction
For this assignment, operation management is selected as a career to analyze different aspects related to recruitment, interview, personality test, and ethical behavior.
Recruitment Processes in Production Management
Self-reflection
A person’s capacities to see and analyze their own cognitive, emotional, and behavioral processes are self-reflection. But self-reflection needs the fair engagement of a person in analyzing personal strengths and weaknesses to look towards the main reason which may affect the ability of the performance if not managed effectively (Sparks, 2019). In regard to this, I do my analysis every day to look at the problem related to my performance in the organization. For self-reflection, I also collected data related to my interpretation from my seniors and other colleagues, which helped me know whether I am good at performing my duties.
Different Types of Interviews
An organization can use different interview methods as per the scenario, availability of the person, and ability to perform the interview. Regarding this, there are many interview methods, and a few important are phone interviews, video interviews, group interviews, panel interviews, and career fair interviews (The Muse Editor, 2021).
Interviews in operation management
Regarding the operation management, it can be stated that the telephonic interview is used as it this department in the company needs the skills of a person to manage the activity related to the operation such as production scheduling, stock maintenance, scheduling of raw materials, etc. these skills can be easily understood by a telephonic interview and this are used by the organization due to its no-cost involvement nature, and it does not need huge time and workforce to select a person.
Use of psychometric testing
Psychometric testing is used to determine whether or not a person is a good fit for a company by assessing features such as IQ levels, values, and behavioral characteristics. Psychometric instruments may be divided into two fundamentally distinct types. The first category evaluates a candidate’s abilities, while the second examines their personality.
Psychometric test is used in the hiring process, providing training to employees and development of a team as it is used by the organization as a tool to get information about the candidate who is interested in taking the job in the organization (Mindtool, 2021).
Suggestions for Preparation
Regarding hiring, it is suggested that the organization use Psychometric testing with the telephonic interview because of its low-cost nature but usefulness to hire skilled people only for the organization.
Own MBTI Personality Type & Working Style
As per the MBTI Personality type & working style, I can say that I am an ESTJ type person as I am an assertive person and concerned about making things run smoothly. As per the test scale, I am fully committed to the standards, traditions, and laws. I have strong beliefs and possess sensible judgment. I also expect that others will follow the same feeling for me. Therefore, I can say that these tests effectively help to present me in front of others through the test report of MBTI. As per the defined characteristics of MBTI for ESTJ type person, it can be stated that I strongly agree with my own MBTI working style as the characteristics for ESTJ describes that this personality type gives the importance for regulations, social security, and tradition (Cherry, 2021) and I feel the same for me. I wouldn’t say I like to compromise with my traditional values and maters related to security and regulations. I also participate in civic activities that are characteristic of an ESTJ-type person. There is no point in that I can show my disagreement.
Appraisal of Value Added to a Career of Operation Manager
Concerning operation management, many PG courses can help a person start life in an organization’s operation department. For example, a Master’s degree in Operations Management is an important and famous course that a student can join in developing the student’s career in this field and starting the job with success (Keystone Academic Solutions, 2021). It is also stated that this course includes each aspect of the operational activity needed for a person to start the professional life in the operation department of an organization.
About the career of operation manager, international experience is helpful as it facilitates a person to obtain a more comprehensive grasp of diverse cultures, markets, and enterprises. Most significantly, it enables the student to comprehend how production management activities have evolved at the global level and use global organizations to produce global brands. These important considerations make students who have a thorough knowledge of international experience concerning operation management is more appealing to use the quality aspects and standards to ensure the production of products with global standards (Paris, 2012). But the international experience is not an easy task for everyone. It needs huge efforts to understand the cross-culture aspect, way of working, and differences in people’s attitudes.
Importance of Ethics for Professionals
In the file of operation management in an organization’s supply chain, ethics is an important term for the professionals. It is because ethical behavior does not allow making any bad decision in the eye of society. Ethical behavior is a moral and legal code that guides a person’s behavior at the workplace (Musburger and Kindem, 2012). But the ethical behavior of a person is different from professional behavior as professional behavior motivates a person to treat every person as per the given role and responsibilities and make a decision always in favor of the organization rather than looking towards the benefits of the employees.
In a similar context, the ethical and professional behaviors in the operation management also reflect the same fact as the above discussion. It means the ethical behavior in operation management restrict a person by providing raw materials that are used for the production of harmful products to the environment, while professional behaviors of the operation management employee-only motivate that person to provide raw materials for the production activities without considering the effect of final goods on the societies or environment (Mandal, 2010).
But there are a few examples in that the operation staff of the company did not follow the ethical behaviors. For example, the use of the harmful chemical in Maggi by Nestle in the Indian market is a clear example of the failure of the operation staff’s behaviors because they do not follow the ethical behaviors as well as the professional behaviors during the production of the products (Goel, 2019). As a result of this, the company was faced huge financial loss, a decline in customer base, and loss of brand value.
For me, the unethical behavior may affect my career in the organization because such behavior may not help me get social support from the other employees at the workplace who give importance to ethics at the workplace. Further, unethical behaviors may cause problems in achieving the organizational rules and laws. As a result, the growth of my career is not possible in the organization, which gives importance to the professional career.
Conclusion
As per the above discussion, it concluded that the career of the operation manager needs self-actualization to ensure the achievement of the organizational goals, but it also requires ethical and professional behavior to perform responsibilities.
