Question:
Discuss the characteristics of Agile MIS infrastructure?
Answer:
Introduction
Agile MIS infrastructure is very helpful in the data and resources sharing process among employees/users working within an organization. An agile MIS infrastructure utilized in transportation of products from warehouse to the customers effectively when a company takes help of this process to deliver goods or services to the final consumers (Yag¨ue, Garbajosa, D´ıaz & Gonz´alez, 2015). Therefore, agile MIS infrastructure is generally defined as the combination of hardware, software and telecommunication equipment within an organization to support all functions of operations of the company and helps to achieve its goals. At this stage, agile MIS infrastructure optimizes the business operations of a company effectively and helps to increase its productivity and profits (Yag¨ue, Garbajosa, D´ıaz & Gonz´alez, 2015). Now, this report will discuss about the characteristics of Agile MIS infrastructure in general way and a real company scenario, Amazon.
Characteristics of Agile MIS Infrastructure
Agile MIS infrastructure of a company helps to provide several benefits in the business operations, such as optimization of the business, generating growth, reducing costs, productivity improvement, profits, etc. Therefore, the characteristics of agile MIS infrastructure are necessary to know, how it supports the specific change in the process of business operations. These can be discussed as below:
Accessibility:
Accessibility characteristic of Agile MIS infrastructure provides ability to the users to access towards operating a system or computer and its applications and perform different tasks of the organization in business process (Yag¨ue, Garbajosa, D´ıaz & Gonz´alez, 2015). However, the accessibility of the users towards applications is sometimes restricted by the company’s authority or administrator because of sensitive information or data.
Availability:
The availability characteristic of agile MIS infrastructure is considered as operating the computer system and application all the times. Therefore, products of the company will be available with majority to sale them to the customers. On the other side, less operations of the system can reduce the transaction process and availability of the products for customers would also be reduced (Jöhnk, Röglinger, Thimmel & Urbach, 2017).
Maintainability:
The agile MIS infrastructure can be maintained easily to continue working process. In the case of proper maintenance of the system, a user/employee can do transaction process quickly. The maintenance of agile MIS infrastructure increases its working efficiency and effective in the transaction process every time (Jöhnk, Röglinger, Thimmel & Urbach, 2017). The maintainability of agile MIS infrastructure is very helpful to change the
business process and fulfill the changing needs and expectations of the customers. Portability:
Portability is also an important characteristic of Agile MIS infrastructure when a software or application is used in different types of information technology devices, such as mobile phones, laptops, and computers (Jöhnk, Röglinger, Thimmel & Urbach, 2017). The portability helps the users to work on the system either in the office or at home according to the policy of the company.
Reliability:
Reliability is the most important characteristic of agile MIS infrastructure because it ensures whether the system of the company is in right or wrong operations in the business process. In the case of appropriate system operations by users, it provides accurate and reliable information to them at this stage (Jöhnk, Röglinger, Thimmel & Urbach, 2017). Therefore, the users can assure that accurate information of the system has no error in work process or transaction.
Scalability:
The scalability of the agile MIS infrastructure helps to increase profits and growth of the company because of meeting the needs of the system user. With the scalability of the computer, networks, and application, it shows ability to adapt larger demand of the customers and allow greater supply with effective customer services (Islam & Storer, 2020).
Usability:
The agile MIS infrastructure understands the needs of the user and assists to use the system because it is designed in the way of user’s skills and knowledge that can learn the process of the system easily (Islam & Storer, 2020).
Applicability of Agile MIS Infrastructure in Amazon based on its Characteristics
Amazon.com, Inc. is a multinational company that conducts e-commerce businesses on the priority basis through which it sells different categories of products and services to the customers at the global level. Therefore, the applicability of the characteristics of agile MIS infrastructure to Amazon business process can be described as below:
Accessibility:
The accessibility of this company with the help of agile MIS infrastructure can be seen as getting personal information of the customers only related to receiving orders, product delivery and payment in the transaction process. The company is bind with the law to not disclose information of the customers to any third party and follow the policy of data security effectively (Jöhnk, Röglinger, Thimmel & Urbach, 2017). Additionally, accessibility of the employees towards recorded data of the customers is not authorized to check as it has maintained privacy of the customer.
Availability:
The availability of the products in the company is delivered when the customers places orders and pay the price. The customer provides bank details online and initiate transaction for the specific product cost when available. Generally, the availability of the products is informed to the customers on company websites, but availability of out of stock products after a certain period of time is informed through email.
Maintainability:
The system of the company is always maintained in order to perform better in the business operations. The system update related to new products is conducted every time to take advantage in the competitive market place and increase better customer experience providing quality products and fulfilling their needs (Jöhnk, Röglinger, Thimmel & Urbach, 2017).
Portability:
In order to provide better customer experience, portability facility of the application is provided to the customers to install in their mobile phones and place the order online and pay the price of the product online.
Reliability:
The Amazon information that provided to the customers is reliable because it considers competitive strategy in the market to attract a number of customers and maintain customer trust (Yag¨ue, Garbajosa, D´ıaz & Gonz´alez, 2015). Therefore, customers can place the order for specific product online based on accurate information available on the company site.
Scalability:
The larger demand and feedback of the customers encourages Amazon to implement scalability in computer system, networks, and application and increase ability to supply more products with effective customer services to satisfy their needs (Islam & Storer, 2020).
Usability:
Amazon helps customers to install Amazon app and use in different languages to place the orders of the specific products. This method is effective to use by customers to take online shopping experience in their life (Islam & Storer, 2020).
Conclusion
The discussion on the characteristics of the agile MIS infrastructure, it can be concluded that this system is very effective in the business process to take competitive advantage. The use of agile MIS characteristics, a company can increase sales of the products and market share by attracting more customers compared to rivals in the market. The application of the agile MIS infrastructure in organization assures the business success in the market with increasing trust of the customers on the company and profits in effective business operations. Further, the characteristics of agile MIS infrastructure within a company establish strong foundations to conduct business process easily and expand the business in new market.
