Problem:
MSFIN has recently developed their first ever strategy document. The not-for-profit organisation is just over five years old and is completely run by a team of very dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. The founding members have seen a significant growth in requests for their services, from the various agencies they support, over the past five years. Providing for this demand has been MSFIN’s main priority and focus, as a major organisational purpose is to provide basic daily needs to struggling families. A consequence of this is that there is very little time to plan strategically for the business and make time to innovate within their systems.
In discussion with the management of MSFIN, it was determined that the organisation really needed a living document that they can use and refer to when communicating what they do with stakeholders. This will help MSFIN to effectively communicate their performance to external parties, both in terms of – financial performance indicators important to their viability and non-financial indicators critical to their broader organisational interests. This document could subsequently be referred to when applying for grants that remain vital in contributing to MSFIN’s essential operational funds.
Task:
Using the information provided by MSFIN, your group’s task is produce a report for the MSFIN Management Committee that will help them towards their goal of having a living document that effectively communicates their performance to external stakeholders. This document will also provide important information for the Management Committee to consider in terms of measuring and reporting their social impact to their stakeholders and for their own benefit. In this report you are asked to:
Notes:
- You are highly encouraged to do some research on BSC and not-for-profit and social performance measures, however, be careful to use this research to inform your own thoughts and group work and not to plagiarise the work of others
- Be sure to reference appropriately throughout your report. If you are not sure you may like to refer to the Q-manual (see below).
- It is important that your group provides original visual illustrations within your report. It is not acceptable to copy and paste any Google images etc. into your report as this will demonstrate that you have not understood the context of the organisation and its operating environment. Remember this group assignment is asking you to act as strategic advisers to an external client, your professional reputation is an important component of your work.
- You are welcome to volunteer some of your time at MSFIN if you choose to (it is not a requirement).
- All assignments will be run through turnitin software that will indicate the same or similar pieces of work.
- buseco.monash.edu.au/qmanual/qmanual.pdf The Q-manual from page 81 provides a guide on how to prepare a business report. Please follow this approach. You need to format your assignment in the form of a business report.
- The Chief Examiner would like to share the highest quality assignments with the Management Committee of MSFIN. Please let Carly know directly if your group does not want to share their work with MSFIN

This strategic document helps this organization to communicate with the stakeholders and also tell about their services. This organization wants to create a strategic plan for the management committee through which the members of the committee get the important information for the development. If this organization wants to create a plan for the development within a short time they need to follow the following steps.

Measuring social impacts

- The first step to measure the social good is to create a framework that helps the organization to create the structure. Before starting the program organization has to identify a suitable framework that helps to get the knowledge about the available resources. The framework also helps to find out the opportunities for the organization.
- The involvement of the stakeholders and the volunteers also helps an organization to improve the social impact in a positive way. It is also necessary to understand the changes for the development which puts a positive impact.
- The organization has to be transparent about its service through which the stakeholders also get the knowledge of their goals.
- Clearing the purpose in the report is necessary which also encourages the local people to engage with the organization through which the organization can be able to develop.
- Identifying the suitable strategy and then creating a model and then verifying the results is beneficial for the organization to evaluate the performance or also to measure the impacts.
These are the possible ways through which an organization becomes able to measure the social impacts which are also helpful for their development.
Benefits of organization in ensuring the Sustainability
MSFIN becomes helpful after implementing the steps in their process through which they are able to measure the social impacts successfully. It also helps to improve the sustainability within the organization. MSFIN also focuses on providing quality products to needy families. The steps also help to identify the fraud and also help to prevent this after the detection and can control it (Zietlow et al., 2018). The Sustainable development goals help this organization to judge the progress. Suitable volunteer recruitment helps the organization to improve its performance (Mitchell & Clark, 2020). MSFIN provides holistic support to needy families. Analyzing the current position and examining the demands of the locality also helps the organization to ensure sustainability (Nassar & Elsayed, 2018).
Responsible investment in the organization also helps to develop sustainable goals. A better understanding of the environment helps to develop a sustainable practice within the organization (Kraus et al., 2018). Conceptualizing the importance and also understanding the dimension also helps the organization to develop sustainable practice (Ajmal et al., 2018). The information and the measurement steps are proved beneficial for MSFIN through which they are able to measure the social impacts which also helps them to develop and also help them to achieve their goal and improve their social performance.
