Accounting Information System: Systems Development Life Cycle

Introduction

The purpose of this report is to discuss about the accounting information system for system development life cycle. In current business world, the requirements of the accounting information system have become essential part of the company to control and manage different activities effectively and efficiently. The system development life cycle of the companies is basically associated with planning, system analysis, system design, and development on the priority basis. Apart from this, system development life cycle also considers implementation, integration and testing, and operations and maintenance efficiently. The system development life cycle is considered to assess the risk management plan of the organizations and transform a newly-developed project into an operational one.

Accounting Information System:

Accounting information system is the process of collection of data and its distribution to users after processing of data information helps to make decisions based on data. The accounting information system generally produces informational reports about the financial and accounting data in which balance sheet, P&L and cash flow statement are generally are presented. However, financial information system in the present scenario is now based on computer system in which accounting software, such as ERP software are used by the organizations to manage their sales and purchases and other accounting activities on the priority basis (Accountingedu.org, 2022). Therefore, accounting information system of a company is concern to its financial activities, such as transactions in journals, transferring data from journals to ledgers, etc.

Systems Development Life Cycle:

The system development life cycle is a project management model which is based on seven stages, such as planning stage, feasibility or analyzes stage, designing stage, development, testing, integration and maintenance stage. The system development life cycle is a high quality system that is useful in breaking down the works of a project and achieves the results effectively and efficiently. In each phase of system development life cycle, a system analyst provides proper directions using technical and interpersonal skills in order to carry out development tasks of each phase (Wang, 2007). Therefore, system development life cycle is helpful to understand the requirements of users because of various fact finding techniques.

 Accounting Information System for Systems Development Life Cycle:

The accounting information system for system development life cycle helps to provide a clear picture related to the problems and needs of the organizations. An accountant plays as an auditor role within an organization in order to ensure that whether the accounting information system is designed appropriately in the computer audit techniques. In system development life cycle, accounting information system creates an information system to consume significant resources and address the financial resource implications of the organization (Accountingedu.org, 2022). The accounting information system in SDLC also provides information to review the organization’s systems strategy. At this stage, an accountant of the organization in SDLC makes a careful systems planning with a cost-effective activity. In SDLC, the next stage is development stage in which accounting information system provides straightforward information based on the design document specifications. Moreover, at the testing stage of SDLC, accounting information system helps to specifically check for errors of the project and address them with appropriate ways. At testing stage, accounting information system helps to make the task acceptable for end-users by checking the performance (Wang, 2007). At this stage, the works are verified and validated according the information of accounting system and requirements of the organizations.

The accounting information system at implementation and integration stage of SDLC, it helps to detects further errors of the works or project in order to take effective actions and address and bring the results appropriate. At implementation and integration stage of SDLC, the accounting information system assures to minimize the risk and implements any changes to resolve the problems before providing to the customers.

Now, the maintenance stage of SDLC also requires accounting information systems in the project to handle issues at the final stage. The implementation of any change in the project is rechecked to assure its efficiency based on accounting information system and corrected them to make user friendly. At this stage, the accounting information system is useful to make command decisions and implements alternative solution in the case of errors. The accounting information system helps to plan out the requirements and goals of the organizations in its SDLC and fulfill the user requirements after providing understanding.
